Insulet Opens New Malaysian Manufacturing Facility

Insulet celebrated the grand opening of its new manufacturing facility in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
 
The 400,000-square-foot facility, located just north of Singapore on the southern end of the Malay Peninsula, is twice the size of the company’s Acton, Mass. manufacturing facility. Over 350 full-time Insulet employees work at the new facility and the company has plans to grow to over 1,000 in the coming years—part of a $200 million investment in the region.
 
The location was designed to eventually achieve both Green Building Index (GBI) certification and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification. The site has over 5,700 solar panels that product about 15% of the buildings’ power needs.
 
It also has an underground rainwater harvesting system that’s composed of three rainwater capture inputs. It was built with the capacity to satisfy 30% of the landscaping water needs. Energy-efficient equipment and construction materials were also used as hardscape material to lower heat island effects.

In June, the company submitted study results to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to expand Omnipod 5’s indications for use for people with type 2 diabetes.
